Signs of Mistrust:
our halls are not our own

Amidst increasing unease at the recent softening of data protection laws, civil liberties lobbyists are again petitioning the Government today after a series of leaked reports from the DDPM. The reports indicate that stricter measures to limit unauthorised gatherings are being considered by the Government. Over and above the existing Criminal Justice Bill, the new legislation seeks to curtail any unauthorised gatherings at all, on private property or otherwise.

A Government source said: "the new legislation is much more far reaching than what is currently in place. We've been looking at the figures for months now, and we think this will really help to make things better."

Civil Liberties agencies were typically vocal in their opposition, citing emotive examples such as the traditional Christmas dinner as something that could legally be broken up by Police under the new measures.

Our Government source said: "there's really no need for that kind of alarmist attitude. The Police don't do things like that. There are all kinds of mechanisms in place to make sure that kind of thing can't happen unless the person in question had done something questionable."
